Mr. Arnold & the Presentation

Assess the presentation. What did you enjoy and find enlightening? What questions would you ask now that you've thought about it? What role does government play in the energy business and what should government do in the future?

  3. The most enlightening aspect of the presentation was learning about the vapor towers. It was interesting to learn that large gas companies recycle fumes and reuse it as liquid gas.
    To be honest, I really haven't thought about it. However, I would ask how crude oil is manufactured into usable fuel and how many emissions does this process put out?
    Government places standards and limits on gas such as emission standards. However, most of the time, government trys to place unreasonable standards. Government should first know about what they are trying to set limits on.

  4. Amanda:

    I really enjoyed the video about his trip to haiti. I found that very interesting and enlightening. Its one thing to see the devastation on the news, its completely different to see it in home-video format. The energy presentation was informing, but not as enjoyable as the video.

    The only really question i can think of is if he like owns PPC (i think thats what the company was called) or just works there?

    The government helps to make laws to regulate pollution and stuff. I think the government should continue its work focusing on cleaner energy.

  5. I enjoyed hearing about his trip to haiti. Like Amanda said it was cool to see it from a home viedo thing. It was probably the most enlightening thing, the rest was a little borning. I liked hearing how gas gets to be so expensive too. I liked that he explained all that.
    I guess that I would ask him what you have to do to get that job, like college and stuff.

    The government should try to work on keeping the enviornment clean and they make different laws to help with energy and stuff like the clean air act and whatnot.

  6. I really enjoyed the begining of Mr.Arnold's presentation about Haiti. My cousin and his wife had just adopted a little boy from Haiti right before the earthquake struck, so I was really interested in the information he had to offer. His home viedo was very made the tragedy seem more realistic than when watching it on the news. I thought what he did was very courageous. The energy part of his presentation was informing, but I don't really know much about the topic, so it didn't keep me interested.

    If I had to ask Mr.Arnold a question now, I would ask him what his actual job title is with PPC, and what that entitles him to do.

    The government plays a role on maintaing air pollution. I think they should keep regulating air pollution. But, I do think the government makes unreasonable standards. Its merely impossible to have zero emissions for example, so they should make the laws attainable for companies.

  7. I enjoyed seeing the video of his trip to Haiti. It was interesting to see how the whole trip took place. Another area i found interesting was how they transport gas. I never knew it traveled in pipelines under the earth.

    I would ask him what he does exactly for his job.

    The government makes tons of laws with keeping the air clean and saying what these companies can and can't do with gasoline. They should keep watching what's happening to the air pollution.

  8. wow now that i deleted everthing ... again!!!
    What I enjoyed the most was definantly the video on the trip to haiti. it looked like a boat load of fun and just a great adventure. and the fact that he helped who knows how many people in the process just makes it even better.
    um something i would ask him no ... im drawing a blank .. i dont know maybe what are gas companies planning on doing once gas runs out way down the road.
    the government plays a pretty big role in that it takes a whole 52 cents for every gallon i think that is just crazy and as for what they should do ... maybe STOP TAKING SO MUCH MONEY lol but then again we do need money ... i dont know ? Levi

  9. I feel like i'm the only one who comments on other peoples stuff. Anyhoo

    @maddie
    I had no idea that your cousin had adopted a child from haiti. was he/she an orphan? did they manage to get the child out before the earthquake?

    @kaity
    It was really cool to see how it travelled.

  11. Yes Amanda, he did 8) His name is Eli. He was in an orphange and they arent sure of his exact date of birth, so they made it his grandmas. Thefore he just celebrated his first birthday! He arrived to the U.S in December, so Eli was out before the earthquake and celebrated his first christmas! So Eli is a very lucky little boy 8)

    I enjoyed Mr. Arnold tryin to cover up the corruptness of gas companies and tryin to twist our anger upon the "government" and everyone else who takes a cut. I also like his video of Haiti... that earned him some props in my book.

    Well since i asked basically all the questions im pretty much fresh out... id probably ask him how he sleeps at night. Just kidding cause hes a good guy i can tell he just works for an evil corporation.

    Government obviously plays a huge roll since theyre takin a little slice of the profit pie and try to regulate it. I think in the future the gov should try to push clean and renewable energy a lot more. Peace out

  13. To give you a little background, Mr. Arnold owns PPC, which began as a home heating oil company. He sold the trucks and hauling business to Shipley and now operates as a storage facility for PA and the northeast. His plane is a business expense, so he can get between the terminals.
    I've been friends since 10th grade. We were band nerds together--he played trumpet and travelled to Europe as well. He has a business BS degree from Grove City and an MBA from Penn State.

  14. I like many others enjoyed seeing the trip to Haiti. It's good to see that there are some people who are willing to help others. :) I was also very interested in learning about the whole process of storing and distributing the gasoline...or whatever the correct jargon for that is. One thing that I can take away from this is that those giant cylindrical containers I saw when I was young were for gasoline not storing sewage as my parents lead me to belive...or maybe I'm wrong about that too :p.
