Who are YOUR PA Congressmen & Senators?

I will assume you know their names--research their websites and give a summary of their views on major issues of the day. (Our Representative & 2 Senators)
1. What is the most surprising positions?
2. Catagorize the PA politicians in terms of their ideology
3. Assess their prospects for reelection

  1. Arlen Specter and Robert Casey are our Senators and Todd Platts is our representative. I don’t know what were post to write for major issues of the day??? 1. I’m not sure if I’m answering this right either, but I read stuff about health care and I was surprised that they are all for it even though they are from different parties. 2. None of them seem to be like hard core anything. They seem to lean more towards one ideology or another, but they don’t just go for everything in their group. Casey is more Liberal, while the other two are more conservative. 3. I think that all of them can get reelected since everyone knows them pretty good.

  2. 1. I found it surprising that both of the Pennsylvania Senators support health care reform. I found it surprising also how big Arlen Specters nose is, but that’s beside the point. I found it interesting that Specter voted no on a bill giving emergency benefits to seniors, veterans, and disabled people. This was surprising to me because as a democrat he should be all for helping old, poor people.

    2. I agree with Courtney here, none of them seem to have a real ideology. They all seem to have a very diverse “basket.”

    3. I think they are all gonna continue to get re-elected until they cant anymore. Specter, Platts, and Casey are all popular people around this area and I think that they definitely have enough people’s support to continue to get reelected.

  3. 1. Todd Platts is our representative, Robert Casey and Arlen Specter are our two senators. Although our representative and two senators are from different parties they all seem to support the health reform. I was suprised it was such a solid opinion.
    2. Like Amanda and Courtney said none of them seem to have one specific view. They lean more towards ideology and have a vareity of views.
    3. Platts, Casey, and Spector are all well known in the area and will definatelu be re-elected. People are familair with then and also for the most part support their ideas.

  4. Arlen Specter and is fighting for a fair trade agreement for U.S. dairy farmers. Arlen Specter and Robert Casey recently announced funding for Pennsylvania fire departments including the 26 thousand going to the Ridgway fire department. For economy, Casey is looking to create long-term jobs for the younger generations. He also supports the many healthcare reforms. Todd Plats aided in the 2010 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. I found it surprising how cheesy their websites are. They all seem to support whatever will help them get voted for again and their incumbents, of course they are going to get reelected.

  5. 1. Our senators are Robert Casey and Arlen Specter. Todd Platts is our representative. I found it surprising that Platts was the lead sponsor for the first increase in fuel efficiency. I also found it interesting that Arlen Specter wanted to increase federal spending by 138%. I find Casey's involvement in foreign affairs interesting. 2. They are all involved in different committees and have different views in various areas. 3. I'm going to suspect they will all get re-elected because they are well known and incumbents.

    1. surprised ... 2 diferent parties for the senators .. same views to an extent

  7. Our representative is Todd Platts who is a republican and the two senators are Arlen Spector and Robert Casey Jr. They are both Democrats.
    1. Well Platts voted no on a Healthcare Reform bill... no surprise there, however he wants to improve child nutrition...that's right people, that means that chubby little kid with the little colorful dilly boy hat, you know the one with the spinner on it, will be getting toned and slimed some time soon. Thanks Todd Platts. He also supports the Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship so they will be able to attend colleges. The Most surprising thing I saw was the help for Haiti button on his website. The Two senators were typical, they were for healthcare and they supported the Bipartisan Job Bill which will extend unemployment insurance until the end of the year. They also gave tons of funding to the Fire Companies.
    2. Platts seems a little more varied but I might just be saying that because of his support in Haiti... but the two democrats are all for helping the people and everybody else.
    3. I'm not really sure about the last question but on their sites they all have a whole section dedicated to their constituents... OH and you can plan events like breakfast with Bob Casey so you can spend all morning staring at his uni-brow...sweeeet. :)So they will probably all get re-elected no problem just because they will do whatever it takes to gain ur support.

  8. Representative is Todd Platts and the two senators are Arlen Spector and Robert Casey

    1. the most surprising thing was that both parties agreed on the health reform.

    2. There are many different opionions n ideologies in the parties.

    3. They will proly get reeleced because they are well known incumbents, n usually incuments get the relecetion.

  9. Hey everybody--I have a few thoughts:
    1. Spector switched from GOP to Dems. You see, when he was originally elected in the 1970s there were such things as moderate Republicans. They were trapped, hunted and poisoned until there was only one left--Arlen Specter/ He promptly switched to the Dems to avoid the unevitable

    2. Spector & Casey will both face challenges, although Spector--as a traitor and an old cancer survivor--will face stiffer opposition. Casey's unibrow does protect him to a degree

    3. Platts can firebomb puppy pounds & still likely win reelection.

its 12:30 and i just woke up and realized i never did my blog so i'm sorry if this sucks

    1. Our representative is Todd Platts. He is a Republican so his views on major issues are obviously Republican views. He supports tax cuts and opposes same-sex marriage. He voted against the increase in the debt ceiling and he's against the out-of-control spending that lead to America's debt. He is also against the recent health care reform bills. I found it interesting, however, that he states although he is opposed to many decisions being made in Washington today, he remains optimistic about our nations future. You would think he'd be pessimistic about it since the Democrats are in power.

1(cont.) Our two Senators are Arlen Specter and Robert Casey. They are both currently Democrats. However, Specter switched from Democrat to Republican back in 1966 and then recently switched back to Democrat in 2009. Both of these men support the health care reforms and other various left-sided views. I found it interesting, like Amanda, that Specter opposed a bill giving emergency benefits to seniors and veterans. That surprised me too. I also found it interesting that Bob Casey graduated from College of the Holy Cross and the Catholic University of America. You would think with that kind of background he would be more of a Republican.

    2. None of them are really ideological, which makes sense because it's hard to get re-elected when you're an extreme liberal or an extreme conservative. They may view themselves as one or the other, but they don't portray themselves as one or the other because they want to appeal to as many people as possible. For example, Specter has conservative views on gun control, crime and national security. But at the same time, he has liberal views on abortion rights, the environment and immigration.

    3. All three of them are likely to get re-elected for obvious reasons. Their incumbency makes them well known and [mostly] well liked. Also, like i said in number 2, none of them really lean one way or the other when it comes to ideology, so they can appeal to more people. This helps them as well when running for re-election.

  12. 1. Alright most surprising thing i found is that im stil doing this so late. But as for the reps i found it surprising how awesome the big specter is! Hes in ripleys believe it or not! But as for things related to gov i thought it was interesting how he switched from the Grandpas Overdoing Party to the much favorable dems or Damn Excellent Member Society. I thought that was unheard of.

2.Well obviously as for The Big Specter (who is ranked as top 10 senators and 2nd most powerful senator... really impressed with this guy) since he switched parties he really has mixed policies which i would argue arnt really mixed theyre just his morals and values that he sticks to (which is very admirable) theyre just looked at with a partisan attitude. Both the other guys are mixed too. Theyre like all other politicians just lookin for the votes, i mean the good of pennsylvania.

    3. Alright so TP (also another name for toilet paper haha) hes obviously a god around these parts so hes got no prob. RC ( also a generic version of soda pop) shouldnt have a huge problem because hes an incumbent and has varying views. The big specter however is gonna have some problems. Hes a traitor which neither party likes but since he currently holds 2 records one of them being thats he the longest serving senator in pennsylvanian history i think he'll be alright. I just asked my grandpa what he thinks of him tonight and he said hes voted for him every time hes had the chance and if my grandpa is votin for him you know hes got the win
